چکیده

The purpose of this study was to compare knee extension range of motion (ROM) as measured by a newly constructed linear instrument and by a gravity goniometer among children ages 8-14 years and to establish normative values for these children. The linear instrument recorded the distance in millimeters from the border of an uplifted heel to the measurement table. Coefficients of variation for knee extension were lower when linear measurement was used than with the gravity goniometer. The Pearson product moment correlation coefficient between the two methods of knee extension ROM was r = .79 @ < .001). Mean knee extensionROM was 13.2+ 8.5 mm, or 2.8 + 1.9". Results of this study indicated that the constructed instrument was appropriate for assessing knee extension ROM and may be considered for use by rehabilitation specialists.

Comparison between the Short Term and Durability Effects of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Exercise and Instrument Assisted soft Tissue Mobilization Technique on Ankle-Dorsiflexion Range of Motion

Introduction: Reduced lower extremity range of motion and movement leads to a decrease in movement efficiency; accordingly, it is vital to maintain the range of motion to prevent damage and improve functions. The purpose of this study was to compare the short term and durability effects of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) t...

Inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the fluid goniometer for measuring active knee flexion in painful knees; correlations do not mean agreement

[Purpose] The fluid goniometer is an instrument for measuring range of motion. Reliability of the fluid goniometer has not been established for subjects with painful knee joints. The purpose of this study was to determine the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the fluid goniometer in measuring active knee flexion of painful knees and to test its agreement with the gold standard ruler go...

Reproducibility of goniometric measurement of the knee in the in-hospital phase following total knee arthroplasty

BACKGROUND The objective of the present study was to assess interobserver reproducibility (in terms of reliability and agreement) of active and passive measurements of knee RoM using a long arm goniometer, performed by trained physical therapists in a clinical setting in total knee arthroplasty patients, within the first four days after surgery. METHODS Test-retest analysis. SETTING Univers...

Validation of a novel smartphone accelerometer-based knee goniometer.

Loss of full knee extension following anterior cruciate ligament surgery has been shown to impair knee function. However, there can be significant difficulties in accurately and reproducibly measuring a fixed flexion of the knee. We studied the interobserver and the intraobserver reliabilities of a novel, smartphone accelerometer-based, knee goniometer and compared it with a long-armed conventi...

The Effect of Modified Floor Reaction Ankle Foot Orthoses on Walking Abilities in Children with Cerebral Palsy

Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a modified floor reaction ankle foot orthosis (FRAFO) design on gait performance in children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Eight children with cerebral palsy wore a modified FRAFO bilaterally for six weeks. Motion analysis was used to assess the immediate effectiveness of the orthosis on improving gait and also following si...
